On the Physiological and Medicinal Action of Hydrofluoric Acid and the Fluorides

چکیده
Resident Physician, Medical College Hospital, Calcutta. As hydrofluoric acid has lately been used with apparent success in the treatment of goitre (E. Woakes in Lancet, p. 448, vol. I., 1881); and still more recently a fluorine salt?the ammonium fluoride has gained in Calcutta (Dr. Coates in p. 26 of Indian Medical Gazette for current year) not a little reputation for the discussion of enlarged spleens of malarial origin, other members of the medical profession in India are likely to be led to give the remedy a more extended trial in those two affections, so prevalent in this country. To these, it is hoped, the following contribution towards the elucidation of the properties of this new class of proposed remedies may be useful, seeing that neither hydrofluoric acid nor the salts of fluorine have a place in any of our works on Materia Medica. At the outset one is confronted by the difficulty of dealing with a class of substances which in their

Effect of hydrofluoric acid concentration and etching time on microtensile bond strength of suprinity and enamic CAD/CAM ceramics to resin cement
Introduction: The use of dental ceramics has increased due to their beauty and biocompatibility. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of hydrofluoric acid concentration and etching time on microtensile bond strength (μTBS) of the Enamic and Suprinity ceramics. Material & Methods: In this in vitro study, two hydrofluoric acid (HFA) concentrations of 5% (A) and 10% (B) were used at t...
متن کاملEffect of hydrofluoric acid concentration and etching time on the surface roughness of CAD/CAM ceramics
Introduction: Dental ceramics are considered as materials that can restore the appearance of natural teeth. Etching the inner surface of a ceramic restoration with hydrofluoric acid (HF) followed by using a silane coupling agent is a well-known and recommended method to increase the bond strength. The aim of etching on ceramic structure is to enhance the surface roughness (Ra) and energy and to...
متن کامل8686 Fluoride and Faulty Reasoning
The letters to the Editor of the International Journal of Occupational and Environmental Health by Phyllis Mullenix and Donald Taves on setting appropriate safety standards for industrial levels of fluorides and fluorine are considered as if they were a debate. The participants’ views on gaseous fluorides, hydrofluoric acid and particulate fluoride are summarized. It is concluded that in the en...
متن کاملImpact of Foliar Spray of Spherical Nano-carbon and Salicylic Acid on Physiological Traits and Parthenolide Content in two Feverfew Cultivars (Tanacetum parthenium Linn. cv. Pharmasaat and Jelitto)
Background: Biotic and abiotic elicitors produce secondary metabolites and alter physiological traits of the plants by affecting some of the mechanisms within the plant cells. Objective: This study was aimed to investigate the effects of different concentrations of spherical nano-carbon and salicylic acid on physiological traits and paratolenolidae content in Feverfew. Methods: This research ...
